Welcome to Kari On Nutrition. My name is Kari Ikemoto Exter, RD, CDE and I am a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator.

What is a Registered Dietitian?

A Registered Dietitian (RD) is a food and nutrition expert who has met academic and professional requirements including: Earning a bachelor’s degree with course work approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).  They must also complete a year 1440 hour supervised practice internship, to be eligible to sit for the Registered Dietitian examination.

Why do I blog?

Kari On Nutrition is a blog born through my passion for nutrition, health, cooking, science, exercise, and enjoying delicious, nourishing food. I created this blog to act as a forum to share all things nutrition and dietetics, along with my love of cooking, recipe development, and EATING!

How did I get here?

I am based in Los Angeles and completed my undergrad in dietetics at Cal Poly Pomona. I got my DTR after I graduated and spent a few years working as a health educator for a medical group in the Los Angeles area. I moved across the country (eek!) to complete my dietetic internship at Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire and my clinical education at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

What am I doing now?

I currently am the clinical nutrition manager with Aramark at a Los Angeles hospital. Prior to working as a manager, I was an outpatient RD for a large medical group then an oncology dietitian at a major teaching hospital in Los Angeles. I love meeting with patients, learning their stories, and how we can work together to make our lives a little more nourishing.
